I’m sick of this.

Anytime I buy shit from walmart, someone has something condescending to say. Especially at this fucking school, where every kid wants to be an activist and fight for shit they know nothing about. So anytime I say I got something from walmart, someone is always giving me side-eye and going, “Well, I try not to shop there, because I believe that Wal-Mart is the scum of the earth and the source of poverty in third world countries and blah blah bluuuuahhh”.

And every time, they succeed in making me feel like a shitty person. But you know what? Fuck that.

Fuck that attitude of “How DARE you buy shit from Walmart?” Fuck that attitude of “You’re a terrible person because you buy shit from them!” FUCK IT.

I am broke. Your ass might have enough money to shop in other places. Good for fucking you. I am broke. I can’t afford much. Walmart is cheap. I can get food from there cheaper than I can from the grocery store down the street, which means more food for less money, and when I’m over here, sustaining myself on a once a month minimum wage paycheck, I’m going to do what I can, and buy from where I can afford to buy. I’m going to go for the one dollar fresh produce rather than the prepackaged produce that will cost three dollars more at the actual grocery store.

Yes, I know about the travesty that Walmart is. Yes I know how shitty they treat their employers. I fucking know. But fuck you if your rich ass thinks that I’m going to go broke because I’m trying to save a few dollars because a few dollars is all I fucking have. I literally have only 55 bucks to my god damn name and you want to ride me for buying 30 bucks of food at Walmart instead of Tops?

Let me tell you what I got from Walmart: Fresh tomatoes. Fresh green onions. Fresh strawberries. Chicken. Fish. Canned fruits. V8 Fruit juice. AND MORE. I even was able to get a few treats: frozen fruit bars, and pound cake. Know how much all it cost me, total? Thirty dollars, even. Know how much that would cost me at the grocery store? Damn near sixty dollars. I paid seventy two dollars last time I went to the grocery store, and I bought less than I did at Walmart. Know what it would’ve cost me at the local farmers market? Over one hundred dollars.

Let me say it again: I am broke. My dad demanded I go to college but refused to pay a single fucking cent, so you know he’s not about to help me with shit. My mom already emptied her retirement fund so I could be here, and is occupied with her own bills because one unfortunate event after another keeps happening with her car, the house, etc, so I’m not going to ask her for help, and fuck you if you think that “Well, maybe if you just asked her for money, you would be okay” because FUCK YOU, she’s struggling to cover the homefront, and I am NOT asking her to pay for my damn food when I have at least enough to do that on my own.

But when you’re going to get all high and mighty and huffy puffy because I bought my food from Walmart, and act like I’m “contributing to the broken system,”… if you’re fussing at me because “You should be buying at the farmers market to support the local community, and help improve the economy instead of buying from that exploitative big industry sweatshop”… then I’m going to need you to get the hell out my face, because you don’t know me, you don’t know my circumstances, and fuck you for your classism, and fuck you for turning actual problems into a way to boost your own god damn ego, sitting there feeling all smug for mentioning children in sweatshops, because it shows how worldly and charitable you are when you’re not even doing anything to help them and don’t actually give a shit about them, but waat to use them in order to make yourself look good, and beat others down.

If you have the means to buy from the local farmer’s market where a fucking mason jar of milk costs like seven dollars, then good for you! But you know what? I don’t. Just because this school is expensive doesn’t mean we all have the money to be here, and it doesn’t mean that we’re all rich. Doesn’t mean we all have rich as fuck parents. And I can do without the condescending bullshit that reeks of white saviorism.

If you don’t like where I buy my food, then at least you don’t have to eat it. But you sure as hell can bite me.
