I think when I see white people say to POC bloggers pointing out racism things like “this is bad because my feelings are hurt” I think a lot of things are going on with such statements, but one of them is this:  denying one own responsibility for one’s one emotions and emotional management.  

Now, not to say that no one has any accountability what so ever in how others treat people. I’m not saying it’s o.k. to treat someone abusively and then say “I’m not responsible for your feelings, you handle it.”  But what I am saying, is when a POC is talking about racism in general and is talking about their own experiences as a POC, and this general non-personal discussion makes you feel uncomfortable or hurts you, you are putting the responsibility of that POC to not make you feel hurt by their truth, and that’s unfair.  You are asking a POC to take care of your feelings at the expense of their own emotional health and that’s not fair either.
