Also, I started learning Tsalagi two years ago, but due to school, didn’t have as much time to dedicate to it as I wanted. That, and nobody in my family actually speaks it, since the culture was ripped away from us. So I’d have nobody to speak it with. But still, I want to continue with that. For me.
The only problem is, I can’t tell what sources are valid and what aren’t. There are tons of language sites, and some of them look very legitimate, but I’m not trying to learn white people Tsalagi. :/ White people are the reason I don’t speak it in the first place.
I’ll work this out.
#ReclaimingMyCultures
I can’t remember words when I try to speak, but when I listen or read, I know what is being said, what words mean. I just need to learn to remember the words so that I can, you know, speak.
But still.
I just read an entire Selecciones (Reader’s Digest) and understood most of it.
And this pleases me. :]
OH MY GOD YES. Every white girl at our school is always all, “YOWWWWLOWWWW, tee hee!” And it makes me want to place my head on some train tracks and wait for glory to come. And they always try to talk in AAVE like it’s so fuckin trendy. But if they ever come across a white person who was raised and happens to naturally speak AAVE because of where they’re from, they mock the ever lasting hell out of them. But then they wanna turn around and be like—and I QUOTE “Nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga!!!!” And YOOOOWLOWWW” sounding like some cats that just got hit by a fuckin tram. And oh oh OH don’t even GET my ass started on the “HEY SHAWWWWTEEEEE” bullshit they always be tryna pull.my sister has informed me that her very rich and white institution of higher learning now has white sorority girls from some of the richest places in the country saying YOLO. i think it’s time to retire that word lol. it made me start conversing with my room mate about how a lot of our vernacular has to make cycles and rotations because once white people start using it frequently it’s not cool or ours anymore. and so we gotta bring some old stuff back. i mean, i use words like bomb, whack and ill still lol. but because they are not part of the common white copy cat vernacular tryna steal our shit. i don’t use words like yolo or swag. you know what we call swag in my house? fucking denim jackets on old dudes lmao. but that mcdonalds thing about them making those commercials with Black casts to sell that shit to white audiences made things make a bit more sense. cause those ads are horrible to just about every Black person i talk to. but white folks prolly think shit is cool. and they copy and use the vernacular. and it sounds shitty and gross and appropriated. and we gotta change shit and recycle and invent new vernacular so we can keep our stuff to ourselves.
Like, for real, every time Black folks come out with some new shit, white folks be on it like white on rice. Shit, white on rice ain’t even natural, why you think yo ass on some Black shit is gonna be a good thing? Fuck offfffff, fuck wayyyyy off. For real, I need white folk to just step away from all the shit that isn’t theirs. Even when they try to claim it, they mock the hell out of it, why the fuck would you think we want you all up in it? GO AWAY.
